Squarespace to WordPress Migration, Australia

Squarespace is a good product that people outgrow in a predictable way: they need a blog structure it will not give them, a form that does something specific, or a site their own team can extend. The migration is straightforward — provided you know in advance which parts of a Squarespace site do not come out of the export file.

Not quite what you are after? Moving an online store rather than a content site? Squarespace Commerce migrations follow a different path, closer to our Shopify to WooCommerce process, because products, orders and payment setup have to be handled as well.

What the Squarespace export actually contains

The WordPress export gives you pages, blog posts, images and basic text. It does not give you Summary Blocks, Gallery Blocks, index pages, custom CSS, form submissions or product data. Those are the parts people are most surprised to lose, and knowing which of them matter to you is the whole planning conversation.

Index pages and Summary Blocks have no WordPress equivalent

Two of Squarespace's most-used layout features are proprietary. An index page becomes a WordPress page template; a Summary Block, which pulls posts dynamically by collection and tag, becomes a query. They can be reproduced faithfully, but they must be rebuilt rather than imported, and they are usually the largest single piece of work.

The URL structure changes, and rankings depend on the redirects

Squarespace puts blog posts under a collection path that WordPress will not reproduce by default. Every existing URL needs a mapped 301 to its new location. This is the difference between a migration that keeps your search traffic and one that resets it, and it is the step most often skipped.

Forms, and where your submissions have been going

Squarespace forms post to Squarespace, and if they feed a Google Sheet or a mailing list, that connection ends with the platform. Rebuilding the form is easy; rebuilding the workflow behind it — notifications, storage, the CRM it fed — is the part worth auditing before you move rather than after.

Rebuilding the design without inheriting its limits

Squarespace templates are opinionated, and part of what you are buying with a migration is escaping that. We normally reproduce the design closely enough that returning visitors are not disoriented, while removing the constraints that made you leave. It is worth being deliberate about which parts you are keeping because you like them and which because you are used to them.

What you own afterwards

A WordPress site on hosting you control, with a theme and content you can take anywhere. That is the durable argument for the move, more than any individual feature. It also means maintenance becomes yours — which is worth pricing honestly, either as your own time or a <a href="https://cloudywp.com.au/services/web-development/wordpress-maintenance-melbourne/">care plan</a> from $159 AUD a month.

Squarespace migration questions

How much does it cost to move from Squarespace to WordPress?

We quote per page: $300 AUD for a single page, $250 AUD per page from two to nineteen, and a custom fixed quote at twenty or more. So a typical eight-page brochure site is a known number before we start, not an estimate.

Will my Google rankings survive?

They should, if the redirect map is complete. Rankings are attached to URLs, so every old URL must point at its new equivalent. Expect a short unsettled period while Google recrawls, then a return to where you were — assuming the content came across intact.

Can I keep editing the site myself afterwards?

Yes, and that is usually a reason people move. We hand over a site your team can edit, with the page structure set up so adding a page does not require a developer. We include a walkthrough at handover.

02 — How we work

From first call to live — four steps, no surprises.

Every CloudyWP project runs the same way, whether it is a one-page site or a store with a thousand SKUs. Here is exactly what happens.

01

We map what you actually need.

A single scoping call, then a written plan: what gets built, what it costs, and when it ships. No discovery-phase invoices, no moving targets.

Typically 48 hours

02

We design and build it properly.

Custom WordPress or Shopify on clean code you own outright. Every build ships fast, passes Core Web Vitals, and is handed over documented.

2–6 weeks typical

03

We automate the busywork.

Your site talks to the tools you already run — CRM, invoicing, email, stock. The repetitive admin stops being someone's job and starts running itself.
